Looking for a natural way to boost your horse's immunity and repel insects? Discover the power of garlic! This unassuming feed additive has something truly unique – it acts as a natural protective shield for your horse's body. 💪✨
Why garlic? 🤔
Garlic ( Allium sativum ) isn't just a flavorful ingredient in our cuisine—it has an equally impressive reputation in the horse world! Here's what it can do:
🛡️ Strengthens immunity – helps the body cope with infections, especially useful during cold and weather seasons,
🌬️ Supports the respiratory system – for mild coughs or colds, makes breathing easier in case of mild infections,
🦟 Repels insects – flies, midges and mosquitoes stay away, the smell of garlic released by the skin has a repellent effect
🧼 Has a cleansing effect - supports the detoxification of the body
🪱 Helps fight parasites - supports natural immunity against worms
How to feed garlic to your horse? 🐎🍽️
The most convenient form is dried garlic in granules or flakes – just add it to the daily feed.
📏 Dosage:
📏 Dried garlic dosage:
✔️ approx. 10–30 g per day for an adult horse (1–2 tablespoons)
💧 Liquid garlic:
➡️ Usually 10–20 ml per day – check the manufacturer's recommendations
🔄 Use in cycles: 2–3 weeks of administration, then a break. This will prevent the horse's body from being overloaded and maintain the effect. 🌱
Is your horse sensitive?
Consider black garlic as an alternative!
It does not contain as much allicin as regular garlic, but has other, milder active compounds that may be better absorbed by horses with sensitive digestive tracts.
How to give black garlic to your horse?
📦 It most often comes in the form of a soft paste or dried cubes.
📏 Dosage: approx. 10–20 g per day , depending on the product (always check the label!)
👉 It can be given as an alternative to traditional garlic , especially if the horse has a sensitive stomach or does not like the spicy taste.
Warning! When NOT to Serve Garlic ⚠️
Like any natural supplement, garlic has its limitations. Avoid it if your horse:
❌ has anemia or blood problems
❌ suffers from stomach ulcers
❌ is a mare in foal (unless the vet recommends otherwise)
❌ has very long contact with garlic without breaks - it may be harmful
Watch your horse – each one reacts differently. 🧐💬
🦟 Natural repellent? Yes! 🧄✨
It's no joke – regularly feeding garlic releases its scent through the horse's skin (imperceptible to humans!), but insects hate it! It's a perfect solution for summer, especially for horses that spend a lot of time grazing. 🐴🌞🌾
