Has your horse lost his appetite? Is he having trouble gaining weight? Or is he recovering from illness?
📣 Get to know fenugreek – a plant with extraordinary power that horses love (especially the picky ones!).
What is fenugreek? 🤔
Fenugreek ( Trigonella foenum-graecum ) is an herb known for centuries in natural medicine. Its seeds have a distinctive, slightly nutty aroma and... work wonders on a horse's appetite! 😋
Why is it worth giving fenugreek to your horse? 🌿
✅ Stimulates appetite – horses eat more willingly even when stressed or convalescing
✅ Supports weight gain – especially in lean, older horses or foals
✅ Has anti-inflammatory and protective properties – helps with digestive system problems
✅ Supports lactation in mares - stimulates milk secretion
⚠️ During lactation, only after consultation with a veterinarian – although it supports milk production, it is not always recommended.
✅ Natural source of vitamins and amino acids – supports immunity and regeneration
How to serve fenugreek? 🐎🍽️
📦 Most often available in the form of:
✓ whole seeds (for brewing or grinding),
✓ ground powder,
✓ feed additive.
📏 Recommended daily dose :
✓ 20–50 g per day for a 500 kg horse
✓ best administered as an addition to concentrated feed or mash
💡 You can pour warm water over the seeds – they swell and become easy to digest, while also being exceptionally tasty! 🥣
Does fenugreek have any contraindications? ⚠️
✅ It is generally safe, but:
❌ Do not administer to pregnant mares – fenugreek may cause uterine contractions and increase the risk of miscarriage.
❌ In horses with legume allergies, it is worth starting with small doses
Interesting fact 🌟
Fenugreek is also known as... a natural anabolic ! 💪 Thanks to its saponin content, it can gently support muscle growth in performance horses—of course, without any chemical additives.
